Geoffrey Downes - The Light Programmp3 @ 256 Kbps | 1:11:14 min. | 1986 | 130 MB Ex Buggles, Yes and Asia man Geoffrey Downes must spend most of his waking hours in recording studios, if the flood of archive material that comes out bearing his name is anything to go by. A lot of it seems to be musical doodling, but this piece of eighties experimentation is rather engaging. Most 'new age' instrumental music leaves me cold, but not THIS album. Recorded essentially as a solo project in 1986, "The Light Program" is probably closest in style to several of Rick Wakeman's electronic instrumental albums. Each of the 5 tracks is like a small symphony from some future time. "Symphonie Electronique", which opens the disc, has been one of my fave recordings since I first heard it back in the 80's. The New Dance Orchestra was formed in 1986. It performs an alternative form of music designed to bring tone and colour to the stereo spectrum, and at the same time retaining a deep musical foundation, upon which are built a series of images to stimulate the listener in his or her own personal domain. "The Light Program" is a collection of musical pieces which have been discreetly assembled. On the surface this album just seems like another CD of musical mood pieces, dipping in and out of quasi-classical and ambient. |

Blackmore's Night - Village Lantern320 kbps | 1:00:53 | 142 mo Individuality and true musical greatness are marked by an artist who follows his own intuition, without being influenced by other people’s expectations; Ritchie Blackmore’s integrity may occasionally seem strange, if not indeed doubtful to many a Deep Purple and Rainbow fan but it shows that he is one of the best and most exceptional contemporary musicians in every respect. With his band, Blackmore´s Night, featuring his partner, the vocalist Candice Night, Blackmore has certainly not broken with his previous creative forms of expression. Quite the opposite: the songs on his current album, The Village Lanterne, document unmistakably that there’s still the rock musician inside him. But Blackmore has not remained static in his development, he has allowed his penchant for medieval music, which already shone through on many of his hard rock compositions, to culminate in his very own, unique style of music. On The Village Lanterne, Blackmore´s Night combine great vocal melodies, seemingly archaic instrumentations and virtuoso guitar parts with lyrics that allow the listener to dive deep into a mysterious, romantic world. In the process, Blackmore continues to develop his ability as a composer and instrumentalist without ever denying his former artistic identity. Mond Tanz/Child In Time is the resurrection of one of Deep Purple’s greatest hits in a new guise, and Street Of Dreams is a haunting new edition of the Rainbow classic. Both songs represent the close artistic links to Blackmore’s work in the Seventies and Eighties. At the same time, Just Call My Name, St. Teresa or I Guess It Doesn’t Matter show that his rock musician’s heart remains ever-present in his new compositions. On the title track and on Faerie Queen, Candice Night seems to blend together with Blackmore’s acoustic guitar, while 25 Years displays oriental influences. Then there are wonderful moments, such as the folkloric instrumental numbers The Messenger, Village Dance! and the beguiling World Of Stone, Olde Mill Inn and Windmills |

Blackmore's Night - Winter Carols320 kbps | 42:37 | 99 mo Ritchie Blackmore is one of the very few great guitarists who display musical genius, individuality and integrity in equally large parts. Within his bands Deep Purple and Rainbow he frequently displayed his liking for medieval music, expertly combining medieval inflections with hard rock and thus developing a guitar style that is truly unique. In the mid-1990s, Blackmore took a musical step which seemed perfectly logical to his countless fans: he founded the "renaissance rock" band, Blackmore's Night, together with his partner, the vocalist Candice Night. This seven piece band, surely, is the ultimate expression of Ritchie's unique musical ability and his fascination for medieval music. Now, Candice Night and Ritchie Blackmore are turning another of their dreams into reality: they are releasing their first and long-awaited Christmas album. Candice and Ritchie have always loved the spirit of winter: with its memories of good friends and families sitting around the fireplace, and the spirit of the holidays, the world seems to be a more forgiving gentle one, and people join with those they love. It evokes festivities and bright candlelight, and music that was sung and performed for hundreds of years by minstrels of the Middle Ages - many of these songs still emerge today during the winter season. This is Candice and Ritchie's interpretation of many favourite carols, shared, performed and enjoyed for the past 400 years. Editor: Bright - 25 November 2009
