Wavestar - Mind Journeymp3 @ 224 Kbps | 1:00:42 min. | 1985 Re-rel. 1993 | 79 Mb "Mind Journey" is Wavestar's 1st album, originally released on cassette in 1985 and re-released on CD in 1993 on Surreal to Real label (this post). If you ask somebody about his or her list of favourite electronic bands and/or artists, often the name of Wavestar is mentioned. And not only in the regions of electronic music fans. Their specific mix of seventies and early eighties electronics, Pink Floyd-like spacey rock and the gift to compose simple but very beautiful music, attracted many. And it still does. Wavestar consisted of John Dyson (guitars and keyboards) and the sadly deceased Dave Ward-Hunt (keyboards/sequencers). In the eighties they brought us three classic (well, actually four because Groove released “Out Of Time” in 1997) and highly appreciated albums. “Mind Journey” has all the impressive elements of Wavestar and John Dyson’s solo outings. Take the first track “Departure”. Ward-Hunt’s sequences remind of Tangerine Dream, period “Encore”, and Dyson’s guitar and atmospheres have a Floyd “Wish You Were Here”-approach. This, mixed with a distinctive sound from that time, the Roland VP330 Vocoder Plus, gives a wonderful feeling. But there is more, like the experiments in “Landfall”, the pop in “Acrotramp” and the melodies in “Atmospheres” and “Return”. This last pieces has traces of the later solo records by Dyson. And, of course, the sequences in “Wavestar” are brilliant. Let’s cherish this treasure of electronic music.
Tracklist:01 Departure (14:23) 02 Seascape (07:16) 03 Landfall (03:45) 04 Wavestar (05:33) 05 Acrotramp (10:52) 06 Atmospheres (08:02) 07 Return (10:51)
